Appeals Policy
1. Overview
Diligent Safety Training & Consultancy Ltd provides a formal route for participants on the Never Lose Anyone™ Safety Leadership Masterclass who wish to appeal against an assessment or completion decision. Where the Programme includes a CPD-assessed element, participants are assessed against the stated learning outcomes and, where applicable, the criteria of the relevant accrediting body. Assessment and completion decisions are made by the Programme facilitator.
2. Areas for appeal
Our Appeals Policy enables participants, in certain situations, to make a formal appeal against a decision relating to:
- the facilitator's assessment of any element of the Programme that affects whether a CPD completion outcome is awarded;
- an application for a reasonable adjustment or special consideration in how the Programme is delivered or assessed; or
- our final, overall completion decision for the Masterclass.
3. Grounds for appeal
The following is a list of examples and is not exhaustive:
- a reasonable adjustment was refused without reason, or a decision to limit a requested reasonable adjustment proved to be inappropriate or insufficient;
- the participant requested special consideration, but this does not seem to have been applied;
- the assessment or completion decision was not made in line with the stated learning outcomes; or
- there was inappropriate or irregular conduct on the part of the facilitator.
4. Appeals process
Stage 1
On the day they receive the assessment or completion decision, the participant should discuss their intention to appeal directly with the facilitator responsible for that decision. If the participant is dissatisfied with the outcome of this discussion, they should request a 'Participant's Appeals Application' form, which can be posted or emailed to them. The participant must submit this form within five days of the date of the decision and include with it any supporting evidence. Appeals received after this time will not normally be heard.
Stage 2
Once received by us, our designated Internal Quality Assurer ("IQA") will investigate the appeal and respond in writing to the participant with a decision within 20 working days of receipt of the form. If the participant is dissatisfied with the IQA's decision, they should make a complaint directly to the Owner of the company under our Complaints Policy.
5. Additional notes
- Appeals are far easier to investigate with supporting evidence. Where an appeal rests on what took place during a session, the participant should set out, in writing, the relevant facts, dates and any materials or correspondence that support their case.
- Where a session is delivered live online, any recording made by us may be used as evidence in an appeal, subject to our Privacy Policy.
- It is the participant's responsibility to notify us, before the Programme or assessed element begins, of any medical condition or accessibility need that may affect their participation, so that a reasonable adjustment or deferral can be considered.
